In the two weeks since the last full Power Rankings column was published, only 10 of 22 scheduled games were played. 10 of those games were rained out, and two weren't played because one team didn't show up.
Only four of twelve WMSPL teams have a positive run differential, and one of those teams is the Falcons, who suck. There is a gap between the WMSPL "Elite" and the rest, and that gap is widening. If one were able to find an amateur bookie who would take action on the upcoming WMSPL Playoff Tournament, the smart money would be on one of the top three teams in this here Power Rankings column.
#1. A's
(Rank last week: 1)
Record: 22-1-3 (2-0-0 this week)
1st place in the President's Division (1st overall in WMSPL)
Thanks to the rain, the A's played a doubleheader against Re/Max on Monday. They only won game one by 4 runs, so I'm sure Re/Max had fantasies of being the first team to beat the A's since May (in case you need a reminder, it was the Falcons who dealt the A's their only loss so far this season). Those fantasies were quashed in game two, as the A's pulled away with an eight run victory.
#2. Storm
(Rank last week: 3)
Record: 20-5-1 (2-0-0 this week)
2nd place in the President's Division (2nd overall in WMSPL)
In a perfect example of the divide between the top teams in this league and the rest, Storm laid an unforgiving beating on Bollocks this week. Neither game saw the bottom of the fifth inning because Storm was scoring in double-digit clumps. Storm has won 4 in a row and has taken over 2nd place in the President's Division. They're on their way to another season with a single digit in the loss column, which normally would be good for the division title. But the A's, man.
#3. Broadway
(Rank last week: 2)
Record: 20-6-2 (0-1-0 this week)
3rd place in the President's Division (3rd in WMSPL)
A disappointing loss to the surging Rebels knocks Broadway out of 2nd place in both these rankings and in the overall WMSPL standings.
#4. Rebels
(Rank last week: 4)
Record: 15-12-0 (1-0-0 this week)
Tied for 1st place in the Vice President's Division (Tied for 4th in WMSPL)
An ELITE win over an ELITE team brought the Rebels back into a first place tie in the Vice President's division. It appears to be a two-team race for the VP division title with only 11 to play. Can the Rebels keep up this pace?
#5. SI Play
(Rank last week: 5)
Record: 13-12-1 (0-0-0 this week)
4th place in the President's Division (6th in WMSPL)
SI hasn't played since Monday July 30 because their game this week was rained out.
#6. Falcons
(Rank last week: 6)
Record: 15-12-0 (0-0-0 this week)
Tied for 1st place in the Vice President's Division (Tied for 4th in WMSPL)
The Falcons haven't played since Monday July 30 because their game this week was rained out.
#7. Brew Crew
(Rank last week: 9)
Record: 10-16-1 (1-0-0 this week)
3rd place in the Vice President's Division (8th in WMSPL)
Brew Crew won by default this week.
#8. Coulas Bone Crushers
(Rank last week: 8)
Record: 11-15-2 (0-2-0 this week)
5th place in the President's Division (7th in WMSPL)
Another loss by default this week for Coulas, their 3rd such loss this season.
#9. Hanet Plastics
(Rank last week: 10)
Record: 8-15-3 (0-0-0 this week)
6th place in the President's Division (Tied for 9th in WMSPL)
Hanet hasn't played since Monday July 30 because their game this week was rained out.
#10. Bollocks
(Rank last week: 7)
Record: 9-16-1 (0-2-0 this week)
4th place in the Vice President's Division (Tied for 9th in WMSPL)
Bollocks took an absolute shit-kicking at the hands of Storm in their Monday night doubleheader this week, and in an EPIC serving of revenge, had their sponsor refuse service to Storm when Storm visited the actual Bollocks Pub for some post-doubleheader fare.
#11. Surge
(Rank last week: 11)
Record: 5-22-0 (1-2-0 this week)
6th place in the Vice President's Division (12th in WMSPL)
Surge hasn't played since Monday July 30 because their game this week was rained out.
#12. Re/Max Crossroads
(Rank last week: 12)
Record: 5-21-0 (0-1-0 this week)
5th place in the Vice President's Division (11th in WMSPL)
Re/Max lost both ends of their doubleheader against the A's on Monday, and have lost 5 straight.
