We're back after a week off. Have something to say about the rankings? Leave it in the comments section!
#1. STORM
(1-0-0 This Week; 25-2-1 Overall; 1st in President's Division)
(Rank last week: 3)
Storm moves back into the top spot in the rankings, and not because they've necessarily improved on their performance. I mean, how can you do better than winning ALL THE TIME? Well, I mean, you could start scoring 40 runs per game... Storm has won 4 straight since their pool party related defeat to the hated Falcons. Their next four are against the A's, Brew Crew, Broadway and the Falcons again. It'll be impressive if they can sweep this next block of games. Storm's magic number for a league championship is 5, which means they could clinch as early as mid-August.
#2. BROADWAY
(1-0-0 This Week; 20-8-1 Overall; 2nd in President's Division)
(Rank last week: 1)
Broadway drops a spot after losing to Surge, even though they "bounced back" with a default victory over the cottage-dwelling Re/Max. With less than 10 games to go and a five-and-a-half-game deficit to make up on the division-leading Storm, the hopes of a division crown are fading fast. At this point, best to focus on getting the #2 seed for the playoffs, and games against #9 and #12 that go along with it.
#3. FALCONS
(1-0-0 This Week; 18-10-1 Overall; 4th in President's Division)
(Rank last week: 4)
The Falcons blew through Surge this week, and are 5-1 in their last 6, their only blemish being a tail-end-of-the-double-header loss to the Rebels, to whom they've lost 3 of 4 this year. With a division crown virtually out of reach, and a place in the President's Division in 2020 nearly locked in, the Falcons don't have much to play for in the last 9 games. Maybe they can throw in a free beer night if they can win their next 4?
#4. REBELS
(0-1-0 This Week; 17-11-1 Overall; 5th in President's Division)
(Rank last week: 5)
The Rebels also have very little hope of a division title, so they're playing for the questionable advantage of a Friday night "bye" in the playoff tournament by finishing in the top 4 in the overall standings.
#5. A'S
(1-0-0 This Week; 19-9-0 Overall; 3rd in President's Division)
(Rank last week: 2)
The A's have played merely .500 ball over their last 6 games, and that's good enough for a three-spot drop in the rankings. They're 6.5 games behind Storm for the division, so their best outcome seems to be if they can catch Broadway for the #2 seed.
#6. BREW CREW
(0-1-0 This Week; 14-14-0 Overall; 1st in Vice President's Division)
(Rank last week: 6)
Brew Crew holds a slim 1-game lead over Hanet to cash a division championship cheque. They'll play each other on Sunday night on K2... why not stick around to see the fireworks?
#7. IG WEALTH
(1-0-0 This Week; 9-15-2 Overall; 6th in President's Division)
(Rank last week: 8)
The Iggies are on a dismal 1-5 run, but won this week. They'll spend 2020 in the Vice President's Division, it's nearly certain.
#8. HANET PLASTICS
(1-0-0 This Week; 11-13-2 Overall; 2nd in Vice President's Division)
(Rank last week: 7)
Hanet remains lying in wait until minor ball season is over and all the baseball dads on their team can return and dominate the competition. They're only a game back of division-leading Brew Crew, ready to blow through their remaining games and cash a division winner's cheque.
#9. RE/MAX CROSSROADS
(0-1-0 This Week; 11-16-2 Overall; 3rd in Vice President's Division)
(Rank last week: 9)
Another week, another default loss for Re/Max.
#10. GREENTHUMB
(0-1 This Week; 6-19-2 Overall; Tied for 4th in Vice President's Division)
(Rank last week: 11)
Greenthumb moves up a spot this week, but really only because Coulas is really, really going through a tough stretch. Greenthumb is 1-5 in their last 6, and is fighting to stay out of a date with Storm in the round robin portion of the playoff tournament.
#11. SURGE
(0-1-0 This Week; 4-24-0 Overall; 6th in Vice President's Division)
(Rank last week: 12)
Surge moves up a spot, but unlike Greenthumb, they've earned it with a .500 record over their last 6 games. Surge is finally playing ball like they're capable of, instead of the oh-for-thefirsthalfoftheseason bad luck they encountered. Surge will spoil someone's playoff tournament.
#12. COULAS BONE CRUSHERS
(0-1-0 This Week; 7-20-0 Overall; Tied for 4th in Vice President's Division)
(Rank last week: 10)
Coulas drops two spots, thanks to an eleven games losing streak. It seems their premature 2020 pick-a-friend hasn't payed the immediate dividend they were looking for.
