Eight Isn't Enough

SLF lead the Falcons with 3 RBI but the eight-man squad came up just short in a 10-9 loss to Direct on Sunday evening.

Dorothy, Toto (not the band), and the Wicked Witch of the West (insert any number of exes in here) all made an appearance in the hurricane-like windy conditions on Sunday, which made chasing fly balls in a 3-man outfield that much more fun.

After Direct took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, Million Dollar Bill lead off the second with an EXTREMELY GENEROUSLY SCORED triple, and scored on an SLF sacrifice fly. The questionable scoring brings to mind some other questionable scoring from late last season. For consistency's sake, let's just give SLF a posthumous inside-the-park homer and we can put an end to these silly watches, OK?

The Falcons offence didn't really even show up until the fifth inning when the Falcons scored 3. Neither team hit a home run.

Sensing impending doom, the Falcons batted around what felt like 4 times, sending 10 men to the plate in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 9. Direct walked off in the bottom half after putting men on second and third with nobody out and sacrificing home the winning run with 2 out.

Inside-the-park Home Run Watch: The last time a Falcon hit an inside-the-park home run was July 23, 2012. Last year, SLF should have had one if Shizzle had been the official scorer in that game.

Game Notes: Balls hit to dead centre were caught (or, more accurately, missed) in right... Junior Thompson doesn't want to lead off, but going 5-for-6 is no way of showing it... Player commitment is in question with both Sunday and Monday's games attendance being 8 regular Falcons. Calls for the Iron Man to return are being heard...
