assignment Xtremely Big Win, Poutine Blows Cycle Attempt
Wednesday 9:30PM July 6th, 2016
An unexpectedly full bench put up two six-run innings and held on to beat Xtreme for the second time this season and clinching the season series win with a 20-15 victory on K1 on Wednesday night. The game was shortened by the WMSPL mandated 85 minute time limit. It still boggles me that Storm could put up 44 runs in one game with a time limit like that. After a Poutine 3-run jack in the first inning, Xtreme fought back in the bottom of the first to put up a 5-spot and take their only lead of the game. In the top of the second, Senior Thompson led off with a two-bagger and was followed up by an SLF single. The conspiracy continues, but for some reason Barry didn't score from second on the SLF base hit. Obviously, Poutine had a finger in it, either as the third-base coach, or some other means. But make no mistake: It was Poutine who held Barry at third.
Goliath led off the fourth with an Xtreme-ly selfish Porter (didn't even take one step towards first, either. 1. Swing. 2. Jog to the playground), but he was just following Barry's lead anyway. In total, the Falcons hit 4 home runs on the night, and almost 5 (more on that later).
In the fifth, after a lead off single by Junior Thompson, he was immediately scored by a Dinner Dinger. Dinner, channeling SLF, nearly caught his own homer as well, sprinting out to right to fetch the manifestation of his awesomeness. Two batters later, Poutine barely scraped out a triple that would have been astand-up job if it was SLF who was running. There's now a 4-way tie for team lead in three-baggers.
After a delicious doughnut in the 6th, the Falcons loaded the bases to start the 7th on two intentional walks to Ash (!) and Barry, sandwiching a Million Dollar Bill single. For the second time in the game, up walked SLF with the bases loaded. A deep drive to centre and SLF hit 4th gear. Ash, coaching third after being pinch-run for, gave him the wave home and SLF beat the throw home, no matter WTF Matt said. ("Foot wasn't on the ground." That rule is stupid.) Anyway, SLF was thrown out at home, and it was scored a triple. Poutine would have been thrown out at second (which he WAS, in the previous inning trying to achieve the second Falcon cycle of the season).
The Falcons have won 5 in a row, and with pizza night on the horizon for Sunday's game, wouldn't it go great with the free beer that accompanies a six-game winning streak? They'll have to beat Mighty Hanet to do it! The Falcons play Hanet twice and Storm once in the next four games, in a series that should determine if they're contenders or pretenders.
Inside-the-park Home Run Watch: The last time a Falcon hit an inside-the-park home run was July 23, 2012. Shut up.
Game Notes: SLF: Fast. Poutine: Slow. Must be the fromage... The guest scorekeeper was popular, with Poutine hitting on her all game, and Teets with the money quote: "70?!? She looks really good for 70!"... Boxscore will have to wait until a later date.

Matt made his BEST call of the season thus far! LOL. There's no reason to put that foot up in the air, just touch down across the line!
