assignment Falcons Beat Hanet, Parade Planned
Sunday 9:30PM July 17th, 2016
The Falcons came up big with a late 8-run sixth and some superb fundamental defence on the last play of the game to beat Hanet for the first time this year 16-15 to close out this Sunday night doubleheader.

The Falcons were able to use the long ball to their advantage, thanks to two solo shots by the first two hitters in the bottom of the first for Hanet. Dinner used them best, socking a two-run shot in the fifth, and clubbing a long hot salami the very next inning.

Down 13-7 after 5, the Falcons put up the big inning that's been scarce for this team this year. Including the aforementioned Dinner Slam, Poutine jacked a Selfish Porter, surely only to pad his stats for his unavoidable sweep in the team's individual awards at the end of the season (including Rookie of the Year, but maybe not most sportsmanlike. Certainly not most gentlemanly).

After Hanet tied it up in the bottom of the sixth, Coach Shizz showed why he's the team's leader, belting a go-ahead dinger into the dark night.

With a chance for the victory, it was gut-check time for the Falcons. After allowing a lead off single in the bottom of the seventh, that hitter was lifted for Hanet's lead off hitter in to pinch run. The next hitter flew out to right-centre, the runner was unable to advance, and this was key. George fouled out, giving Hanet a sprinter on first and two out. With cries from all over the diamond of "keep everything in front of you!", and the outfield playing deep to do so, John blooped a single in front of a hard charging Dinner, who missed in the initial attempt at a sliding grab. He was able to keep the ball in front of him, however, and in true Dinner fashion, over-threw Poutine, who was the cut off man. Seeing the over throw, the Hanet base runner accelerated towards home to try to score the tying run. Teets grabbed the overthrown ball, and threw a strike to Junior Jenkins at home to cut the runner down and end the game. Easily the most exciting finish since Senior Thompson's walk-off grand slam last year.

Inside-the-park Home Run Watch: The last time a Falcon hit an inside-the-park home run was July 23, 2012. Dinner thought he had something going there, but he had to go back to third. Ha.

Game Notes: Poor, poor Fit Bit. Buys a Fit Bit, gets badly injured... G-3 has cleared waivers and will join the Pigeons post-haste... For the second straight game, the Falcons sent less men to the plate in the game than the opponent and didn't lose... With no player moms in attendance, Poutine had no one to rub up against.
