assignment Cowboy Gets Out, Falcons Lose
Sunday 5:00PM May 26th, 2019
The Falcons split their home-and-home with the Rebels, losing on Dan's walk-off liner to right in the bottom of the seventh inning. Louie scored the winning run and the Rebels came away with the victory, 8-7.Since SLF didn't make the line up, the Falcons bats were alive in the top of the first. Jealous of all the attention SLF gave to himself in the last recap for hitting the team's first triple of the season, Cowboy lead off the game with the team's second triple of the season. He was immediately scored by the Mattural's sacrifice fly. A Goliath single and a family-witnessed 2-run blast by Band Camp and the Falcons had put up 3. Solid defence held the Rebels to a delicious doughnut in the bottom of 1 and things began to look promising.
The Falcons went down in order in the second. The Rebels got to within 1 run of the lead in the bottom half when Doug hit a wall scraper of a home run to score two. The Falcons responded with 6 hits that produced 3 runs in the top of the third to take a 6-2 lead.
The fourth inning saw the visitors score 1 to go up 7-2, but things started to unravel for the winners of 4 in a row. The Falcons bats went silent after that. A base-running gaff and a mis-application of a rule cost the Falcons a run in the fifth, but that wouldn't have made the difference anyway.
The Rebels came alive late in the game, scoring in every inning after the third. After tying the game in the 6th and holding the Falcons to nothing in the seventh, they loaded the bases with 1 out in the bottom half of the inning. An infield fly recorded the second out. After fouling two pitches off to the right side, Dan hit a sinking liner to right field. The Falcons, thanks to a brilliantly written defensive alignment written by Hobo, had just the right player out there to make the sliding grab. Unfortunately, this was not Dunner's day. He made it to the ball, made the slide, but couldn't wrangle the ball and the Rebels walked off victorious.
Two Home Runs In One Inning Watch: The last time a Falcon hit two home runs in one inning was August 29, 2012.
Free Beer Watch: It's been since June 7, 2016. Time to start a new streak, starting Monday.
Game Notes: A near capacity crowd came to watch the Falcons struggle, including Mrs. Steve (apparently her real name), Stevette Jr (also 100% correct) and [checks notes] Expecting... The dugout looked a lot like Daddy Daycare... Another day, another multi-run 1st inning with the SLF-taint-free batting order... Could have used some of that SLF taint to wake up the bats in the late innings, though... The Falcons are now 0-1 when Cowboy records an out... Excellent baseball fundamentals shown by the right side of the Falcons infield in the 6th, with Teets covering the bag on the grounder to second.

Tough game, bats went cold. Lots of first pitch swings. It doesn't hurt to take a few pitches to try and change up the momentum, it's much easier to defend when every pitch is put in play. If we're looking for positives, the pitching and defense were pretty solid.
Totally blaming Banner for that one for stating before the game started "only 2 more games to free beer, eh?". Therefore beer tonight SHOULD be on Banner since he jinxed us...
