assignment Falcons Bounce Back
Monday 8:00PM August 26th, 2019
The Falcons bounced back from their Sunday afternoon defeat to the A's with a 32-8 victory over the Vice President's division leading (and curiously walk-up-music-free) Brew Crew on Monday night. With almost no time to lick their wounds, and surely no time to wallow in self-pity, the Falcons took the K1 field only 26 hours after seeing their hopes for a 2-seed entry into the playoff tournament evaporate to a six-man A's team. On Sunday, the Falcons played with half their season total of home runs signed out of the game. On Monday, they fielded nearly a full squad. And the hits, they just kept on coming.
In the top of the first inning, the first 6 Falcons to wield a bat scored, all without hitting a home run. Brew Crew bounced back in the bottom half, scoring 2 thanks to Phil's two-run shot. After one, Brew Crew lead in home runs, 1-0.
To lead off the top of the second, the 12 and 13 hitters for the Falcons got on, turning the line up over, and the top didn't disappoint. Eleven Falcons batted, and they scored eight runs, all without the assistance of a ball hit over the fence. Cowboy hit an inside-the-park home run, but as we all know, those don't count towards a team's total. The Falcons defence held Brew Crew to a lead off double in the bottom of the second and nothing more. After two innings, Brew Crew lead in home runs, 1-0.
The third inning passed with neither team hitting a dinger, and going into the top of the fourth inning, Brew Crew lead in home runs, 1-0.
Dunner lead off the top of the fourth for the Falcons with a single, and Poutine followed with the same. Teets, hot as always lately, cashed them all with a 3-run shot over the right field wall to even the home run count with Brew Crew at 1-1. The Falcons loaded the bases again and Million Dollar Bill cleared them with a 3-run double all before The Mattural closed out the Falcons' 9-run 4th with a two-run dinger to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead in home runs. Brew Crew bounced back to score two in the bottom of the fourth without the assistance of a home run to keep the tally at 2-1 in favour of the Falcons.
Goliath came up to lead off the top of the fifth for the Falcons, and hit a ball that no one could see land for a solo blast that then put the Falcons up +2 in home runs. Dunner then took a half swing at a ball that followed Goliath's into the night for the Falcons' first MDBHR in a while.
Phil hit his second home run of the game in with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning to bring the final tally of home runs for the game to 3-2 Falcons. The bottom of the fifth also featured entertaining defence!
PLAYOFF SITUATION
With the Falcons attention focused on their season finale date with Broadway, a Monday night game after a tough loss had all the makings of a trap game. Fortunately, the Falcons were able to re-direct their energy to the game at hand and came away with a necessary victory. The Falcons remain tied with the streaking Broadway, after they took care of business in the late Monday game against Coulas, for the #3 seed in the playoff tournament, with a head-to-head matchup looming on the last day of the regular season.
Two Home Runs In One Inning Watch: The last time a Falcon hit two home runs in one inning was June 14, 2019.
Two Triples In One Inning Watch: The last time a Falcon hit two triples in one inning was June 11, 2019.
Free Beer Watch: It's been since August 18, 2019.
Game notes: With the playoffs looming, rumours of roster manipulation begin... With two games to go, the battle for statistical supremacy comes to a head: King Grahambo leads Cowboy in two-baggers, 25-24; King Grahambo leads Goliath in homers, 14-11; Cowboy leads SLF in triples, 11-6; Million Dollar Bill leads Dr J in singles, 56-50; and TEN Falcons have more games played than Big Cat has plate appearances this season... A note for Hobo: Benny Hill and Benihana are two VERY VERY different things.
