The Falcons shook off an early deficit to come roaring back late, winning their second game in a row for only the second time in 2021, 22-9 over Hanet Plastics.

The early game of the Sunday twin-bill began as most Falcons games tend to do these days: with the Falcons offence AWOL. They managed only three runs over the first three innings, and in the mean time allowing twos to Hanet in each. After the third inning, Hanet was ahead 6-3.

And in the fourth inning, it looked like it was going to be more of the same for the visitors. Grahambo led off lining out to short and The Mattural followed up flying out to right. Two up, two down, and things looked bleak.

Cue the comeback.

The next eight Falcons to come to the plate got hits, beginning with Poutine's double, and continuing with singles from Goliath, Cowboy, Levi, Barry Guerrero Jr, Million Dollar Bill, SLF and Dunner. In all, the Falcons put up a 5-spot with two out to take the lead. The defence shone in the bottom half, allowing only two hits to hold Hanet to a delicious doughnut.

In the fifth, the Falcons' bats were right back at it. After Grahambo's groundout to short, The Mattural singled and was immediately scored on Poutine's two-run dinger. A string of hit singles followed, and ended with Million Dollar Bill's two-run double. SLF then began his absolutely on-purpose assault of the pitcher's position, beginning what would end up being an evening-long string of 112-MPH-off-the-bat liners aimed intentionally directly straight up the gut in an attempt to end the careers of whomever was unlucky enough to be on the mound. The evidence of such a scheme? "C'mon, you play ball," said one witness, later.

But I digress.

After SLF's liner to the pitcher that resulted in an easy out, Dunner smacked a liner to left that scored two. In his insatiable greed, Dunner was thrown out at second trying to stretch it into a double, ending the inning. When the smoke cleared, the Falcons had scored seven, to go up by nine runs. Nine runs in slow pitch, of course, is nothing when it comes to the talent level of Hanet's hitters.

But there was the Falcons' defence again! In the bottom of the fifth, the Hanet went three up, three down, giving the Falcons what seemed like their first such inning in forever.

Back on the sticks, the Falcons needed to put up a number to prevent a devastating come back by the Plastics. A 3-run bomb by The Mattural highlighted a five run sixth. Hanet came back with a 3-spot in the bottom of the sixth, but in the end it wasn't enough.

Game Notes: SLF took a brief respite from his murderousness ways in the seventh inning, popping out impotently to right... The game was delayed briefly to observe the flying-by of a plane carrying a "Happy Birthday" banner, despite the pilot's both being a few days early, and totally mis-spelling Dunner's name... People still hire planes for this stuff? Is it still the 1980s?... The Falcons have indeed paid their internet bill, and timely recaps will recommence.
