assignment Falcons Defeat Knoblauchs
Sunday 8:00PM August 15th, 2021
Joey committed, roughly, 35 errors to assist the Falcons in securing a 21-15 victory over Storm in game one of Sunday's late doubleheader. And Joey wasn't alone. Both teams had to deal with uneven field conditions in the infield, and bounces were unpredictable to say the least.
After Bob walked to open the game, Poutine already had thoughts of removing himself from the mound. He allowed an RBI triple to the next batter, Duran, his first of three on the night. Duran would later score, but Storm was limited to only two runs in the top of the first. In the bottom half, the Falcons lit it up: they recorded only two outs, and hit five singles and a double to set up Miner Leaguer's inside-the-park home triple (he scored, but his run didn't count.) The Falcons scored the six-run max to take the early lead.
Storm cam right back with two in the top of the second inning highlighted by Duran's second triple in as many plate appearances. Save for an SLF single, the Falcons didn't do anything in the bottom of the second, but still held the lead.
In the third, Storm played T-ball, advancing runners a base at a time until Joey's lead off single scored. It would be their only run of the inning before Bob fouled out with the bases loaded to end the threat. The Falcons seized the opportunity to extend the lead in the bottom of the third putting the first two batters on and clearing them with a Goliath dinger. They put up a four-spot to go up 10-5 after three.
Storm apparently had had enough of this malarkey. In the fourth, all six of the first six batters scored and the Falcons didn't even get anyone out, probably because Bob didn't get a chance to come to the plate. After plating the max, Storm took the lead 11-10. Undeterred, the Falcons came right back. Three doubles in the first five batters all ended up scoring and the Falcons re-took the lead 13-11.
Save for Duran's third three-bagger of the game, Storm fart-noised their way through the fifth. That wasn't good enough for Duran, though, who tagged to score from third as the third out of the inning was caught. Energized by Duran's commitment to scoring runs even when it seems impossible, the Falcons came out swinging in the first open inning. Singles by Cowboy, Miner Leaguer and SLF sandwiched Barry Guerrero Jr's FK. Million Dollar Bill doubled to score two, and Dunner followed up with a two-run single. Five for the home side put them up by seven.
Back came Storm again, because Storm's Storm. Lance led off the top of the sixth with a Duncan, or a Pilkey, or whatever the hell Storm calls their accidental solo home runs. A couple singles and a walk later, and they'd scored again to pull within five. Five singles for the Falcons produced three runs in the bottom of the sixth, and Storm needed a big top of the seventh to come back.
Storm strung together some hits, but could only muster two runs.
Game notes: Visit Pizzaco! NOW OPEN FOR LUNCH!... The win keeps the Falcons out of the President's Division basement, where you have to play three games on Playoff Saturday... Pizzaco also has frozen yogurt, which they probably don't refer to as "frogurt".
