A mid-summer Monday saw some rain, some sun, and just enough heat to dry a K2 field that hosted the end to a dreadful 6-game Falcons losing streak as they won against the Expos, 23-7.

The Expos came in hot, having won both games of a tough Sunday doubleheader against Greenthumb and Hanet. The Falcons, meanwhile, limped into this one having lost 4 games in 3 days and telling the Expos, “Hey, at least we have 11 guys tonight! Wait, 7 guys… are we defaulting… oh there’s Poutine. 8 guys.”

The game was close early, as the two teams traded a 5-spot in the 3rd to keep the Falcons lead to just 12-7. But the defense showed up in the 4th and shut the door the rest of the way, as the Falcons finally added one to the win column in July.

For the Falcons history preservation file: Just for kicks, in the 7th inning Cowboy played 3rd base and Poutine manned CF. Because baseball Gods exist, batter #1 smokes one to Cowboy, who played the hot skip perfectly and got the out at 1st thanks to a tasty summer-ice-cream scoop off the dirt by Flash. Poutine caught a sinking liner in CF for out #2, and then Cowboy almost got out #3 but the ball bounced off the bag for a single. Cowboy live commentary: “This is terrifying!”

Game notes: Uber-productive Dunner had another night, coming just a HR short of the cycle and logging another 6 RBIs… With 3 (!!) triples and 14 games to go in the season, Cowboy has tied his own 2019 Falcons record for 3-baggers in a season with 11… Miner Leaguer was also on pace for 3 triples, but turned the third one into an inside-the-park job for his first HR on the season… Dr. J notched 5 singles to tiptoe his batting average back over .600... the batter’s box was absolute quicksand, and both teams were fighting two-strike counts all night… with the short lineup and subsequent hodgepodge of scoresheet inputs, the disclaimer that Monday’s stats are semi-accurate at best definitely applies… big kudos to the much-improved Expos for continuing to practice on weekends, which this beat writer + toddler watched from the bleachers last Saturday… in solidarity with Million Dollar Bill continuing his new ironman sign-out streak, the Falcons most recent rotation of infielders have all signed out of Friday’s game.
